Conservation delivery, landbird planning, and Nebraska’s natural resources were the main themes of our most recent Joint Venture Management Board meeting, held in Lincoln, Nebraska, August 13th-14th.
Much of the meeting’s discussions focused on the future direction of the JV – brainstorming about how to most effectively support bird habitat delivery. Our JV has traditionally been strong in science and technical support, and we are now looking at how to turn planning into more habitat delivery. Presentations from the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture and the USFWS Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program set the stage for this discussion. We also discussed the pending JV Landbird Habitat Strategy revision and how to best handle habitat and population objectives in a JV-wide conservation design.
Not all of the meeting was PowerPoints – we were able to stretch our legs and see some local Saline Wetlands Conservation Partnership projects, followed by fellowship and dinner at the Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center. We enjoyed a meal of Audubon’s Conservation Ranching beef and a presentation by the Platte Basin Timelapse Project.
